Program Note:

When I first started talking with Heddy, the harmonica player for the Nefelibata New Music Collective, about writing a piece for this ensemble, I was intrigued by the collective’s name. I learned that nefelibata means “cloud walker,” which is a metaphor for individuals with immersive and profound imaginations. In writing this work, I thought about how I could create harmonic, textural, and timbral “clouds” with these instruments. These gestures are contrasted by an energetic, rhythmic section that focuses on a singular pitch.
