Program Note:

Ngũ Hành is the Vietnamese term for the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. This piece is a graphic score that utilizes each element as its own musical mobile, each with its own timbral and harmonic identity. Structured after the generative and destructive cycles of the five elements, the performer is free to move between the mobiles and to fully explore the possibilities of the marimba. This piece was the result of a collaboration with and dedicated to Payton MacDonald, who showed me the untapped potential of the marimba.
